Depression Counseling

Tired of feeling a sense of heaviness and weighed down. Feeling like your emotions control your life. Not talking to friends and family anymore, wondering if it's worth it, if you are worth it. Questioning your own self worth and struggling to make through each day like it's a chore. Wondering when is this going to end. Is this all life has to offer. Maybe thinking it might be better if you weren't around anymore or wishing you didn't wake up in the morning. Finding yourself tearful and crying most days or the littlest thing makes you irritable, and lashing out at others.

Depression is powerful and can feel like it's taken over your life.

It can feel impossible to get out of that slump. Maybe you started taking medications to help alleviate the pain, but that's not making much of a difference either. When we feel hopeless and helpless about our lives or situation it can exacerbate our depression.

Tried therapy before?

Maybe you have been in therapy before and didn't find it very helpful. But you are at a loss of what to do next and there is a part of you that wants to feel better, but you don't know how to get there. For some when therapy wasn't helpful it was that they didn't like their therapist or maybe they were nice, but they just didn't connect with them. Maybe it was their approach that didn't fit and so you found it a waste of your time.

Whatever the case, it doesn't change the fact that you are feeling depressed and I always suggest that if you don't like or fit with your therapist to find another one. Just like if you don't like your doctor or dentist you search out another one, it's the same idea. You want to be able to connect with your therapist and truly share with them what is going on for you so that you both can work towards identifying practical ways to deal with your depression and find ways to effectively work through how you are feeling so that you can feel like getting out of bed and taking on your day. That it feels enjoyable to reach out to a friend rather than a chore.

Why am I depressed?

Sometimes there are life circumstances that have occurred that we know contribute to depression where for others they have felt depressed for what feels like their whole life and aren't sure why. Some are predisposed to depression as others in their family struggle with depression.

Is there hope?

Healing and the process of getting there looks different for everyone and that journey is unique. I think there is hope for everyone if you want to feel better and make real change. It is POSSIBLE.
