BUILDING HEALTHY & RESILIENT FAMILIES

Expert Perinatal Mental Health Care

Hello there and welcome!

I’m Alison Hartman, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in maternal mental health.

For over six years, my clinical work has focused almost exclusively on supporting women through pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years of motherhood. I’ve worked with hundreds of moms navigating postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, depression, birth trauma, pregnancy loss, infertility, and the abundant identity shifts that come with becoming a mother.

This is not general therapy.

This is targeted, informed care for one of the most vulnerable and life changing seasons of a woman’s life.

Specialized high quality care and best practices

My Approach

The women who find me are often high-functioning and goal oriented.

They’re used to managing careers, homes, relationships, and responsibilities well. Many are type-A, achievement-oriented, and hold themselves to very high standards.

Motherhood can disrupt that sense of control in ways that feel disorienting.

In our work together, you can expect both warmth and structure.

I use evidence-based approaches to:

  • Reduce anxiety and intrusive thought cycles

  • Calm an overstimulated nervous system

  • Process birth trauma or loss

  • Strengthen communication in your marriage

  • Rebuild identity and confidence in this new season

  • I offer focused pregnancy and postpartum intensives for women seeking proactive or immediate support

You won’t just have a place to vent.
You’ll gain practical tools, insight, and measurable progress.

Why I Chose This Work

Earlier in my career, I worked with children, teens, and families in agency settings. Over time, I felt increasingly drawn toward the mothers — the women quietly carrying the emotional weight of their homes.

When I began focusing exclusively on perinatal mental health, something shifted. This work felt aligned in a deeper way.

I believe mothers deserve support not just when things fall apart — but when they’re silently struggling and still showing up every day.

I’ve remained in this niche for over six years because I care deeply about helping women feel steady, confident, and emotionally well during this season.

A Little More Personally

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a wife and mom who understands that motherhood can be both beautiful and overwhelming at times.

I value laughter, honesty, and creating a space where you can bring your full experience — without judgment or pressure to “do it perfectly.”

Because the goal isn’t perfection.

It’s balance, connection, and feeling like yourself again.

In 2010, I had my first miscarriage, I was heartbroken, scared and my life felt like it was in a whirlwind. Questioning why this would have happened and will I ever be able to have a child. After talking to coworkers, friends, and family, I learned some of them had previous miscarriages. Something that to me at the time seemed so rare, was more commonplace than I thought. Miscarriage I feel like is such a hidden topic, but through hearing other’s stories I felt more connected to them and not so alone. All were able to go on and have healthy, full term pregnancies.

We still wanted a baby, soon after I was pregnant again and suffered my second miscarriage 4 months after my first. My husband and I were devastated. I remember reading the statistics on the likelihood of being able to have a baby to full term after 2 miscarriages and I felt hopeless. I grieved for a long time thinking I may never be able to have a child or be a mom, something I always hoped for. Through prayer, time, healing, and support from family and friends I overcame my grief and we tried again to have another baby.

Two years later, we had our first daughter and 4 ½ years after that we had our second daughter. My story has taught me not to lose hope and when we expect things to happen or go a certain way, it might not go as planned, and that is okay.

Families are not perfect and we all have our struggles and experiences that will influence our decisions and our path in life. My father struggled with addiction and mental health issues from a young age and this ultimately led to his passing. I wish someone had been there for him and that he received the help and support he needed to be successful and have a happy life.

These stories and experiences draw on my desire to help moms who struggle with depression and anxiety and support them through this fragile time and find relief.
